Florida not letting up on Florida State Rivals100 commit Watkins

To this point in the 2017 recruiting cycle, as far as recruiting battles go, there haven’t been a lot of fireworks between Florida and Florida State. However, early on, the Class of 2018 is shaping up to be an entirely different story.

One target in particular the two coaching staffs will be fighting over for the next 14 months is Ocala (Fla.) Vanguard four-star athlete Justin Watkins.

Early on the Rivals100 athlete is committed to Florida State, but that hasn’t stopped the Florida staff from pushing for his services.

“They are actually on me the hardest out of any school,” said Watkins of the Gators' staff. “I stay in touch with Coach [Greg] Nord and a lot of the other coaches. Really the whole staff. They tell me they want me in The Swamp. I really like their staff. They like me as an athlete. They said on either on offense or defense they will find a place for me to play immediately.”

This coming weekend the four-star athlete will make the trip to Tallahassee to watch the Seminoles and the Gators square off in the Sunshine State Showdown.

Past that, despite his commitment, there are a few other destinations Watkins hopes to take in as well.

“I want to get to Clemson, Alabama, LSU, Tennessee, and then Florida of course. It’s just right down the road - so I can get there.”

When asked the 6-foot, 160-pounder maintained his commitment to Florida State (his second after being committed to LSU at one time) is solid. However, he is leaving the door cracked for other schools, as he plans to continue keeping his options open.

“I am just trying to make sure I keep an eye on how rosters look down the road because I want to come in as a true freshman. My commitment is solid. I talk to them [FSU] daily. I talk to coach [Randy] Sanders and a couple other of the guys.”
