Florida's class takes a huge hit

Hamilton Heights (TN) point guard Shai Alexander-Walker has decommitted from Florida and reopened his recruitment.

Alexander-Walker had been committed to the Gators since November 2015, and recently took an official visit to Gainesville. He was expected to sign a National Letter of Intent next month.

When he made his verbal commitment, Alexander-Walker became the first member of Florida's 2017 class.

A source with knowledge of Alexander-Walker's recruitment told InsideTheGators.com that the four-star guard does not have any visits scheduled yet but the family "will look into that tomorrow."

The source also said that Alexander-Walker still plans to sign early.

Will Alexander-Walker still consider Florida?

Possibly but unlikely. Conventional wisdom suggests that a prospect does not reopen his recruitment this close to when they plan to sign a national letter of intent without having a good idea of where he wants to go to school.

With the early signing period less than a month away, the timing of Alexander-Walker's decision could hardly be worse for Florida. The Gators need a point guard in this cycle to replace senior Kasey Hill.
