You might as well just go ahead and get the niceties out of the way at the very beginning - at the present time - Alabama football is a well oiled machine. They have some of the top facilities, coaches, and support staff in the nation to go with being an SEC member playing in-front of a fervent fan-base. They sign top class after top class which leads to them winning game-after-game, which in-turn helps them send player-after-player to the NFL.
Sticking your head in the sand in order to avoid that reality doesn't do anyone any good.
So, when facing a mountain like that which has to be scaled in the world of recruiting, you better come prepared to do battle.
The bottom line is - it isn't often you come out on the winning end of head-to-head recruiting battles against Alabama.
Surprisingly, given the current status of the two programs, Florida has actually won a couple of those battles in recent years.
In his first full recruiting cycle Jim McElwain was able to get Sunshine State kicker Eddy Pineiro to decommit from Alabama in favor of Florida. Perhaps even more impressive was being able to go in and take four-star running back Lamical Perine out of the state after Alabama made a late push for his services.
This cycle Florida is sort of splitting the difference by going to battle with Alabama for a prospect in the state of Georgia.
Bainbridge (Ga.) Rivals250 running back Dameon Pierce was Alabama's first commit in the Class of 2018 – but that doesn't mean he is locked up and off limits.
