Dan Mullen and the Florida Gators have reeled in their first commitment for the class of 2023, and it's Shawn Russ, Jr. of Fort Myers (Fla.) Dunbar.

Russ, a 6-foot-2, 175-pound freshman who is likely being recruited to play defensive back in Gainesville, was offered just roughly 24 hours ago and simply found no reason to wait, resulting in his commitment on Saturday evening.

In addition to the Gators, Russ possesses verbal offers from Florida State, Miami, Virginia, Georgia Tech and Florida Atlantic.

"Hard-work and dedication can actually pay off, but I’m not done working. God works in mysterious ways and without God I wouldn’t be able to do this. I’m 1000% committed to the University Of Florida," Russ posted on social media.

During the 2019 season, Russ made a splash by accumulating 32 tackles, including 25 solo, five interceptions and three pass deflections for the 7-4 Tigers.
