Frustrating, but productive senior season for Scott

LARGO, Fla. | This season has been one of adversity for Largo (Fla.) Pinellas Park defensive tackle Jordon Scott. While his team has enjoyed a 3-0 start to the season, Scott has dealt with numerous double and even some triple team blocks in order for opposing teams to try to keep the big road grading tackle at bay.

While his stats may not be where he’d like them this season, Scott is glad to see his team rallying around each other and clicking on all cylinders.

“As long as my team is winning and the other players around me are making plays I am happy,” said Scott. “I’m not stressing it and I got what I need and still make sure to make those opposing teams work their best for every rep they take against me. I have been double teamed for the last two seasons, but now teams are running opposite sides of me and trying to seal me.”

Since pulling the trigger and committing to the Gators back in the spring Scott has been extremely solid to the Orange and Blue. So far this season Scott has visited for all three of Florida’s home contests and remains close with his position coach Chris Rumph.

“After I got the offer and committed we have kept in touch just as much and he always has told me to come up and visit whenever I want. I always make sure to come up and see him every weekend they are home. We just talk about plays I can do to get better and ways for me to keep losing a couple pounds so I can play when I get there. I don’t want to have to redshirt to lose weight.”

Aside from the second half of the game against Tennessee the Gators defense has played lights out. Seeing the defense dubbed #BDN for Best Defense Nationally play well has impressed the three-star big man.

“It’s been really solid and the defensive backs and defensive line have been real good this season minus the second half of the Tennessee game, but it happens. Hopefully this weekend against Vanderbilt we come out and play well and bounce back.”

The 6-foot-1, 345-pounder plans to enroll early at Florida in order to get a head start on his college career. Though he admits he is excited to start his collegiate career early, he is trying to keep his full focus on his senior season.

“I want to try and get ahead of the curve,” said Scott. “I’m really not trying to get ahead of myself now and want to make sure I focus on my senior season. I am excited about enrolling early, but don’t want to miss high school while I have it. I am trying to do like Coach [Jim] McElwain says and win the now. I think it’s going to be really helpful for me to be an early enrollee and get that spring under my belt. In my head early enrollment means early success.”

Going forward Scott plans to officially visit Florida later this season, which will be his only official visit he takes. Scott has seen just about every inch of Florida’s campus, but looks forward to learning more about the upgrades to the Gators campus facilities while on the official.

“I was actually the first recruit to the Hawkins Center on the first day, so I want to come back and see it again with people in it. I am big on academics and want to be the first person in my family to get my degree, so I want to come back and see it on my official visit. I also like how they are building the new football facilities, so I am excited to be there for that. I am happy Coach Mac is trying to keep up us to date and I feel like even when I get to Florida it’s my job to help recruiting still. Having stuff like that will just make it easier to get guys to come join the Gators.”
