Gators get big commitment from Gak

On Sunday evening, via Twitter, Bradenton (Fla.) Victory Rock Prep three-star senior power forward Gorjok Gak selected Florida over Arizona State.

Gak, a 6-foot-10, power forward originally committed and signed with Oklahoma State last fall. However, when Cowboys head coach Travis Ford left the program, Gak obtained a release from his Letter of Intent and reopened his recruitment. He quickly narrowed his choices to just two schools scheduling official visits to Florida April 18-20 and Arizona State April 20-22.

Following the visits Gak returned to Australia, consulted with his parents before publicly announcing his decision.

The visit to Gainesville was Gak’s second time on campus. He took an unofficial visit in October with his high school coach Loren Jackson and seemed on the verge of committing to the Gators while on the visit but held off. This time Gak came to Gainesville with his father, who flew with him from Australia and his uncle Longar Longar. If that name sounds familiar, Longar played at Oklahoma with Blake Griffin and had a brief NBA career.

A solid rim running big man with good rebounding and shot blocking skills. His length and athleticism is a good fit for the type of defense Gators head coach Mike White wants his team to play.

Gak is the third member of Florida’s 2016 class joining four-star shooting guard Eric Hester and three-star power forward Dontay Bassett.

In addition Florida is also heavily in the mix with College of Charleston graduate transfer Canyon Barry, who would have immediate eligibility in the 2016-2017 season.
