Florida will host their annual elite camp on Saturday, the first of the Mike White era, which will feature some of the top talent from instate and the southeast.
In addition to 2016 Gators commit John Mooney, several underclassmen from the Florida Vipers 16U AAU team -- rising juniors RaiQuan Gray, Jerald Butler, Paul Atkinson plus rising sophomore Zach Scott Jr. -- are expected to attend the camp.
Scott's father, Zach Sr., told Inside the Gators that Florida assistant coach Darris Nichols invited Zach "to come up a little earlier to give us a tour."
Wellington High School rising junior point guard Trent Frazier and rising sophomore Nassir Little of Jacksonville Oakleaf High School are other in-state players that ITG has confirmed as planning to attend. Frazier, who recently was offered by Baylor and Illinois, led Wellington to the 2015 FHSAA 8A state championship while averaging seven assists per game last season.
Little, who took an unofficial visit to Florida June 30th with his father and AAU Coach Darryl Hardin, holds offers from North Florida, Stetson and UCF. In addition to Florida, the 6-foot-6, 195 pound small forward is also is receiving interest from California, Florida State, Georgia Tech, Indiana, Maryland and Miami. It would not be surprising if Little picks up an offer from the Gators before he leaves campus today.
Team Charlotte rising sophomores Rechon Black and Devon Dotson are also expected in Gainesville for this select camp.
Black has the makings of a big time point guard. The slender guard, who played for Chris Paul's CP3 15U team, recently picked up an offer from Wake Forest and is one of just three players in the state of North Carolina with ACC offers.
Dotson, was instrumental in helping Team Charlotte win the Under Armour Association 17U championship two weeks ago in Atlanta. ITG was on hand as Dotson showed great poise in the championship atmosphere, making the right passes on offense and playing great defense against Canada Elite's point guard Godwin Boahen. Dotson has offers from Clemson, Georgia Southern and Hampton.
Elite camp rosters are usually kept under wraps, and the aforementioned players may only be a partial list of campers, but it's clear the Gators are focusing on younger players with this year's camp in an attempt to be the first high major program some of these kids visit.
