Committed to the Gators for nearly eight months at the time of Will Muschamp's firing last November, three-star tight end Camrin Knight stuck firm with his commitment to the Gators throughout the entire way.
Knight, a 6-foot-4, 220-pound tight end out of Tallahassee (Fla.) Lincoln High School, had offers from Cincinnati, East Carolina, Georgia Tech and North Carolina but picked the Gators back in February 2014 when he was offered. Knight graduated from high school May 26 and is set to enroll at UF starting the Summer B semester in late June.
Inside the Gators caught up with Knight for the latest segment of our "Getting to Know" series for the incoming 2015 freshmen signees.
What led to your decision to attend the University of Florida?
Knight: It's not too far, it's not too close to home. The tradition, and the football team, we're going to make a turnaround and I want to be part of it.
You obviously committed to UF back in February 2014 when Muschamp was still here, but what led you to stick with your commitment?
Knight: Because of the new football head coach really. I think he's going to turn the team back around and lead us into a better season.
What did Jim McElwain say to you that drove you to stay?
Knight: He just said that he liked what he saw from me and that I still had my scholarship. I stuck with it, and I didn't look anywhere else.
What have your interactions been like so far with new tight ends coach Greg Nord?
Knight: He's great. He talks to me a lot. He called me a lot of the time back then during school. He made sure I stayed, and all that. We just talk regularly.
What was your favorite part of your recruitment process?
Knight: I'd say the official visits. That was the fun part because I got to hang with some of the players.
What was your least favorite part of your recruitment process?
Knight: A bunch of other schools calling me - that's one thing. And the reporters who always wanted to keep doing interviews.
What aspects of your game are you aiming to polish this summer and fall?
Knight: I'd have to say route running and catching.
What would you say is your greatest strength as a football player?
Knight: Blocking. That's the easy part. I had a good offensive line coach in high school who taught me the right way and technique, so it came pretty easy.
If it weren't for Florida, where would you have signed?
Knight: Honestly, I don't even know. I'd probably have to say USF.
Have you decided on a college major yet?
Knight: Sports management.
If you could play any team at home in the Swamp who would it be?
Knight: Either Alabama or Florida State.
Do you have any superstitions or rituals in your personal life for before a game?
Knight: Just listening to music and getting my mind right to get ready.
Which NFL team is your favorite?
Knight: I honestly don't have a favorite. It's just whoever's playing that's good I like. But I'd pick between Kansas City, Seattle, the New York Giants and Miami.
If you were to eventually become a first-round NFL draft choice, what is the first thing you would buy?
Knight: Definitely something for my parents.
If you could play with any former college athlete, who would it be and why?
Knight: It would have to be Jordan Reed, because he was one of the best tight ends to come through Florida. I feel like if I were able to learn from him, I could be as great as him or even better.
Who is your favorite athlete outside of football?
Knight: Kevin Durant.
What's your favorite genre of music to listen to?
Knight: Hip-Hop.
What is your favorite TV show?
Knight: It would probably have to be ESPN or the NFL Network or NBATV.
What is your favorite movie?
Knight: I'd say all of the "Friday" movies - "Friday," "Next Friday" and "Friday After Next."
Which celebrity would you most want to trade places with for one day?
Knight: Probably Odell Beckham Jr. A lot of people know him for the dance and how good he is.
If you can go out with any female celebrity for a dream date, who would it be?
Knight: I'd probably say K. Michelle.
What is on your bucket list? Name three things you want to do before dying.
Knight: Go to a hockey game, an NBA game and a soccer game.
