Florida added a key component as they strive to build on their 'DBU' legacy on Wednesday when Rivals250 cornerback Elijah Blades announced for the Gators and became the eighth commitment in the Class of 2017.

Inside the Gators takes a look at this big addition with this Impact Analysis.

The Commitment: The Gators offered the Pasadena (Calif.) Muir prospect earlier this spring after a standout performance at the LA Nike Regional Camp. Since that offer, and despite being on opposite coasts, the Gators have stayed in constant contact with Blades. Credit California area recruiter Tim Skipper as well as defensive backs coach Torrian Gray for this four-star addition.

Impact on the Class: Florida is in the market to sign a handful of defensive backs in this cycle, with Blades being the first piece of that puzzle. Even with this big addition, the staff’s work is no where near done at the position with many top names still on the board. The most likely defensive back to jump on board next is three-star Shawn Davis, who has visited Gainesville multiple times over the last few months. The Gators still have top tier targets such as Shaun Wade, A.J. Terrell, Devon Hunter, LeAnthony Williams, Marco Wilson and Christopher Henderson in their cross-hairs.
