Florida watched a 17-10 lead slip away as Texas A&M made three field goals to come away with a 19-17 win. The Gators have now dropped back-to-back home games for the first time in the Jim McElwain era.
IT WAS OVER WHEN: As has become the norm this season, this wasn't over until the end. Florida trailed 19-17 when redshirt freshman quarterback Feleipe Franks threw an interception with under a minute left. Texas A&M killed the clock to secure the win.
THEY STOLE THE SHOW: Texas A&M freshman quarterback Kellen Mond didn't leave the game with the best statline, but he showed a knack for making big plays both through the air and on the ground.
THE STATS DON'T LIE: Florida's offense threw for only 41 yards in the second half. The Aggies slowly chipped away as the Gators gave the ball back again and again.
WHAT A PLAY: In the quarterback battle, no one expected Franks to have the better running play of the two, but the redshirt freshman dazzled on a 79-yard run that moved Florida from deep in its own territory to down in the Texas A&M red zone. The 6-5 pocket passer showed great vision and awareness. It was one of the lone bright spots for Florida on offense.
THESE MATCH-UPS PROVED KEY: The Aggies absolutely dominated in the special teams game. Florida struggled with kick returns and had a virtually non-existent punt return game. Texas A&M star Christian Kirk came up with a big return to help set up a late field goal.
UP NEXT: Florida will have two weeks to prepare for its biggest challenge of the season, the annual border war with No. 4 Georgia in Jacksonville.
Stay tuned with ITG, as we provide more post-game coverage tonight of Florida's loss to Texas A&M.
