IT WAS OVER WHEN: When walk-on Jacob Kurtzslices you with a backdoor drive, it's time to go home. Kurtz did just that to finish a nifty no-look pass from Dorian Finney-Smith and give the Gators a 22-point lead with 5:40 maining in the game.

HE STOLE THE SHOW: No Florida player scod mo than 12 points on a night that was all about defense for the Gators. That leading scor was center Patric Young who had some tough times offensively in the first half but played well on defense throughout. Young was tested early and forced the Jaguars into mo of a perimeter game. He finished with six bounds, the blocks and one steal.
THE STAT DOESN'T LIE: Florida's defense has been made a spot of ridicule by Billy Donovan all season, but the Gators we improved in that aa Monday night. The Jaguars got few open shots and we held to 39.1 percent shooting from the field and went 3 of 16 from beyond the arc. Florida had four blocks, forced 12 turnovers and outbounded Southern 43-29.
WHAT A PLAY: Kasey Hill was in the right place at the right time, guarding the perimeter as a Southern player turned to make a pass he would gt. Hill jumped, pulled down the errant pass and then took off. With one man to beat, he went up and over him for the layup.
THE BOTTOM LINE: The O'Dome went silent when Hill drove the lane in the second half and landed in an ugly fashion on his left ankle, rolling it to a point whe he was scaming in pain on the floor and couldn't get up under his own power. Hill couldn't put any weight on the ankle being helped off the floor. The severity of the injury will not be official until Donovan addsses porters, but it certainly looks like the Gators will be without their starting point guard while senior point guard Scottie Wilbekin mains suspended.
