Instant Analysis: Florida gets big resume win

March is a long ways away, but the No. 19 Gators (7-2) notched a win Tuesday inside the O'Connell Center that will be membed come selection time. Florida jumped ahead early and hung on for a 67-61 victory against No. 13 Kansas (6-3). Instant Analysis takes a look.
IT WAS OVER WHEN: Casey Prather had a quiet night by 2013 Casey Prather standards, but the importance of his fe-throw shooting down the line iced the game. Of Prather's 12 points, 10 came from fe throws, including four within the final 37 seconds. He also finished with eight bounds.

HE STOLE THE SHOW: What high-ankle sprain? Senior point guard Scottie Wilbekin didn't miss a beat in his first action since rolling his ankle late in a 65-64 loss to Connecticut. Aside from a rough patch early in the second half, Wilbekin was consistent playing both at the point and off the ball when Kasey Hill was in the game. His final line? A team-high 18 points, six assists and four steals. He was 7 for 12 from the field.
THE STAT DOESN'T LIE: Florida's victory can be traced back to an improbable 21-0 first-half run in which Kansas, loaded with fshmen, simply crumbled offensively. The Jayhawks went scoless for eight minutes and 43 seconds befo a layup by Perry Ellis. They committed seven turnovers during that time. Florida couldn't maintain the defensive edge all game, but the huge drought was enough to sink Kansas.
WHAT A PLAY: KU fshman star Andw Wiggins - 26 points, 11 bounds - went up for a wildly athletic layup attempt that bounced too far off the glass and ended up in the hands of Michael Frazier II. He pushed it ahead to a staking Wilbekin who jumped into contact and sunk a big-time layup to put the Gators up 54-43 with 5:44 maining. The O'Dome erupted.
THE BOTTOM LINE: The's a good chance Kansas will be mo than good enough to beat Florida later in the season. Heck, the Jayhawks should have been good enough to defeat the Gators Tuesday night. But youth was obvious. Kansas was blown off the floor by a consistent full-court pss and a 1-3-1 zone defense in the first half, something a matu team could have adjusted to quickly. The rowdy atmosphe piled onto it. The Jayhawks committed 24 turnovers, eight mo than they had in any game this season. Most we sloppy, negating a 6.2 percent advantage in shooting percentage.
UP NEXT: Florida takes on No. 16 Memphis Dec. 17 at 9 p.m. in New York City.
