ITG Subscriber Mailbag, Pt. 1: Answering questions about quarterbacks

With spring practices in the books, Inside the Gators saw its subscribers submit a number of questions they had about the Florida football team. Today, we begin answering them with part 1 of our mailbag, starting off with questions about the quarterbacks and the running back rotation.

From kalimgoodman: What is your vibe from the players as to who they expect to be the starting quarterback?

Watnick: It’s worth noting that the quarterback competition is by no means officially over just yet, even though Feleipe Franks exited the spring ahead in the race. The return of Luke Del Rio could serve as an X-factor in this whole race, while the Malik Zaire transfer situation still hasn’t reached a conclusion just yet and may not until the summer.

However, it felt like players gravitated toward Franks’ leadership this spring and truly took a liking to his confidence. He just holds himself with a certain swagger that his teammates respect. Multiple comments from members of the offense during practices have reaffirmed that as well.

Florida’s communications department trains its players well as to not tipping their hand about matters that the head coach should be the one to speak about - like the quarterback battle, for instance – but overall players seem pretty high on Franks.
