Jalen Goss talks his commitment to the Gators

Florida picked up a 2019 commitment Friday morning when Tyrique Stevenson pledged to the Gators. Then, later on in the day, early Friday evening, rising senior Jalen Goss gave Jim McElwain and his staff more good news.

Goss is listed as an offensive tackle, the position he plays at Valdosta (Ga.) Lowndes, but he committed to the Gators to play the tight end position. The 6-foot-7, 250 pound prospect has not played tight end since his middle schools days, but he is open to making the move back to that position on the next level.

It is all about being a Gator.

"I will do whatever I have to do to help them win," Goss said.

Simply put: the position does not matter to Goss. All that matters is playing in the Swamp and wearing blue and orange.

When Goss made the decision to commit on Friday, it was tight ends coach Greg Nord that got the news first.

"I committed to coach Nord and he was excited about it. He was pumped up when I told him."

The decision had been going through the mind of Goss for some time now. He has added offers from Oregon, Wake Forest and West Virginia, but the one from Florida two weeks ago has been sticking out in his mind. He has been thinking about committing to Florida since that offer was extended.

Today was not the first time Goss was on the campus in Gainesville (Fla.); he was there as a freshman for camp. He knew before then that he wanted to be a Gator.

"I have wanted to play for Florida since I was in middle school. I like how it is close to home, the coaches are great and I like the environment.

"It feels great to be a Gator."
