It appears the NCAA Tournament's selection committee put plenty of stock on Florida's final three regular season games in determining where the Gators would be seeded. As UF players gathered around television sets at Billy Donovan's house and saw that they will begin tournament play as a No. 7 seed facing No. 10 seed Virginia.
Florida will be traveling to Omaha, Neb., for the second-round game in the west region, which will ultimately be decided in Phoenix. If the Gators are able to advance past the Cavaliers, they will most likely find themselves in a third-round match-up with future SEC opponent, No. 2 seeded Missouri.
Although the seeding may not be ideal for Florida, the match-ups could prove to be in favor of the guard-heavy team. Both Virginia and Missouri are teams that will not challenge UF inside as much as some other potential opponents, being primarily guard-oriented teams like the Gators.
Therefore, the fact that losing Will Yeguete and closing out the regular season with three-straight losses dropped Florida back at least a couple spots in seeding has also landed it in a possibly advantageous match-up situation.
Guards Brad Beal, Kenny Boynton and Erving Walker will be looked upon as much as ever to get the Gators through the first weekend, while inside players will get a slight breather after facing Kentucky two times in three games.
