Martin names four who will get official visits

Throughout the recruiting cycle, Cincinnati (Ohio) LaSalle defensive end Ben Martin has remained close mouthed as far as naming a pecking order or an overall leader. However, the Rivals100 member returned from his trip to a pair of Southeastern Conference programs with a much clearer picture of where several colleges stand.

"Everyone was cool at Tennessee. Florida was alright too," said Martin, the No. 45 rated prospect in the nation. "I got to meet some players at both schools and I felt like I fit in with all of them."

The visit to the two colleges were a fact finding mission rather than a chance to practice or camp.

"I haven't practiced at any camps so far," said Martin. "I've been to Ohio State, Tennessee and Florida for more like unofficial visits than camps."

This past weekend he was at the Gators' Friday Night Lights camp.

"I didn't want to workout. I was out on the field watching and checking out some of the other players. I talked to coach (Greg) Mattision and stayed overnight for their junior day on Saturday."

While at the camp, he met and formed a friendship with California defensive end Duke Lemmens.

"We've been talking on the phone. We're going to set it up to take our official visit to Florida together. We met and kind of clicked."

Other than Florida, he said three others are sure to get an official visit.

"I know I'm going to go to Ohio State, Notre Dame and UC," replied Martin. He then was asked about the Cincinnati Bearcats since they are rarely ever mentioned by a member of the Rivals100.

"I'm going to go on a official visit there to show them some loyalty since they're here in Cincinnati and they are building their program."

Martin said that he is finished visiting campuses and will now begin to focus on his senior season.

"I'm done with visits for now. I'm getting ready for football season. We had a 7-on-7 today. We're starting to get ready for our year."

At 6-foot-5, 230-pounds Martin is quick and agile for his size. So much so that according to him, he won't be down in a three point stance this coming season. "I'm going to be playing middle linebacker this year. That's where I practiced today during 7-on-7's."

However, he is being recruited as a defensive end.

When it comes to naming a leader, Martin still isn't quite ready to pull the trigger. "I couldn't even tell you to be honest. There isn't a leader. I'm looking for a place I feel comfortable, where there's good people."
