Notebook: Shannon saw more fight in Gators, emotional Zaire pushed to play
Losing 28-20 at South Carolina to fall to 3-6 on the season and 3-5 in SEC play, there weren't many positive takeaways for Florida. Interim coach Randy Shannon did find one positive in the team's effort.
"I like the way these guys fought, they hung in there," Shannon said. "Nobody quit and that tells you something about this program. I’m excited about it. I told those guys in that locker room, this Gator football team, this Gator program is in good hands. That’s what them guys showed today, that they never quit. Gators never quit, and those guys never quit."
For the second week in a row, Florida fell behind by double digits early. Last week against Missouri, it appeared the Gators checked out when Missouri made it 28-3 in the second week. Sophomore linebacker David Reese notably called out his teammates lack of effort in the loss to Mizzou, earning praise from Shannon. This week, Florida fought to the finish despite falling behind 14-0 in the first quarter.
