Florida was one of the earliest Power 5 coaching jobs to come open in 2017. Tennessee dismissed coach Butch Jones on Sunday and other big jobs are likely to come available in the next few weeks. On Tuesday, interim coach Randy Shannon was asked what makes UF stand out from other jobs.

“It’s a very talented young team," Shannon said. "A lot of talent on this team that is young. Our future is really big here. We’ve got (athletic director) Scott Stricklin and those guys are doing a tremendous job of getting us through this process. They want what’s best for the student-athletes, and they just want to get things done. They want to get it done in the right way. They want to get it done so that we can win."

The young Gators' toughness is being tested in the middle of a five-game losing streak. Shannon says they're not giving up even with uncertainty surrounding the chance of playing in a bowl game.

"They don’t quit. Coming off a tough loss, you know, the situation that happened at Missouri, they came back against South Carolina," Shannon said. "They came back today with still the same type of tempo. A lot of enthusiasm. A lot of good things going on. Very competitive.

"Like anything, a team can shut it down. They’re on time with everything. They’re doing the things they’re supposed to get done. That’s all you can ask for. Now, if the team was coming out 15, 20 minutes late, you’re going to have problems. These guys are coming out 2, 3 minutes early, been on time about everything they’re going through. That’s been a real positive.”

Less positive, however, was the latest injury update.
