Players sound off on off-season workouts

There are two kinds of workouts in the off season, the conditioning workouts overseen by the strength and conditioning staff and then there's the player-run practices (PRP’s).

PRP's can consist of anything from 1-on-1 drills for both skill position players and linemen, to 7-on-7 drills, to 11-on-11s, to quarterbacks throwing to wide outs, to linemen doing individual drills.

During Wednesday's Florida Football Media Day, several players on each side of the ball spoke about the off-season PRP's and workouts and what stood out the most about them:

* Sophomore Cornerback Chauncey Gardner Jr.: “OTA’s have been going great. We got a lot of young guys out there. It’s more of a learning curve. When we’re in OTA’s, it’s more of ‘you’re a coach.’ So, we go out there and say, ‘In a game, this is what you might see. In a game, this is what you might not see.’ OTA’s is a learning period more than a just having fun period.”

* Redshirt Senior Safety Nick Washington: “From a young guy’s standpoint, the PRP’s, they kind of give us an opportunity to teach the young guys without having the pressure of the coaches being out there. We kind of let them know when we get out there, ‘Hey, if you got questions, ask. We know you’re new. We know you don’t know what’s going on. Just ask us what to do. That way, when you get in front of the coaches, everything will be ok.’ From a veteran’s standpoint, they [the PRP’s] kind of reaffirm that we know what we’re doing. You know, it kind of keeps us at the top of our game.”

* Sophomore Defensive-End Antonneous Clayton: “As far as the practices we had this spring and heading into camp: Every practice, I have gotten better. Every practice, I’ve developed my skill-set even more. Going up against guys like Jawaan Taylor and Martez Ivey every single day. I really feel like I can contribute really early this year, and even more than I did last year.”
