Q&A: Orr reflects on return to Florida

USA Today Sports

Before the training camp grind with the Oakland Raiders entering his second season with the team, former Florida defensive tackle Leon Orr dropped by Gainesville this past weekend and was one of many former Gators to take in the action at UF's annual Friday Night Lights camp.

Orr caught up with Inside the Gators to discuss what he thinks of the current state of the camp and also shared his thoughts on a couple other subjects regarding the Florida football program.

What was the experience like this weekend coming back to where it all started for you at the college level?

Orr: I definitely think it was like a walk down memory lane. Because you know how people tell you, ‘Make sure you hold onto your college days because it’s going to blow by fast.’ Once you’re in college, you don’t really think about that. Now that I’m out, I’m like, ‘Dang, time really flew. I’m really at Friday Night Lights.’ I was there in 2008. It was definitely a long time ago.

What stood out to you the most about this Friday Night Lights as compared to previous years?

Orr: When we had our camp, social media wasn’t really that involved with football like how it is now. Just to see how guys are going out there and making great plays and then like five seconds later it’s trending on Twitter, to think when we were doing that stuff - that stuff didn’t even exist. These kids are coming out here and getting so much exposure. One single play can really turn a guy into a 10-20 scholarship-type player. It’s really crazy how technology is really helping with these kids getting exposed.

I’m sure you’re probably referring to that dynamic catch from Jerry Jeudy on Jake Allen's pass.

Orr: That one was crazy. Realistically though, the quarterback had about nine seconds to throw the ball. The way he ran it though, it was so clean. It was crazy how he got off at the end and then everybody went crazy. There were so many views, so many different angles. People were reporting from the south end zone, all types of stuff.
