QuoteBoard I: Florida commits talk Gators and more

Florida had their biggest recruiting weekend of the regular season for the South Carolina game. Not only in terms of official visitors and unofficial targets, but there were plenty of current commits on hand as well.

Inside the Gators caught up with Malik Davis, DaQuon Green, Zechariah Bryd and Zachary Carter for their thoughts on the game, their commitment status and much more.

What are your thoughts on the game?

“It was a good performance and I thought the quarterback did pretty good. They were able to drive the ball down the field and have some great drives. Jordan Scarlett is a good back too. I see the running backs here have a lot of success.”

How does Florida see you fitting into their offense?

“They think I am an every down back and think I can come in and make an impact soon. They wouldn’t need to take me out on third down because I can catch the ball. It doesn’t matter 3rd and 2, 2nd and 7.”

Are you done with recruiting? No more visits?

“I don’t know about visits yet I’m not sure but I am pretty much all in with the Gators. If I did take visits it would be North Carolina or Miami, but it’s going to be hard to flip me.”

Before Florida offered late there was buzz that you were going to commit to either North Carolina or Miami. Where were you going to pick?

“I was kind of leaning towards North Carolina because I would say I had a better relationship with their coaches. I was going to narrow it down but then Florida came in and I knew this is where I wanted to go.”

What was it about Florida that won you over?

“I like the way they run the ball and I think I fit in pretty good in this offense and it’s not far from home.”

You’ve visited Florida a lot, did you see anything new today?

“The atmosphere was great and every time I come here I just feel more love and even I get it from the fans now because they know me from being on campus so much. Once 2017 comes around there are some major changes.”

What did you think of the atmosphere inside The Swamp?

“I liked it and liked the way the game was played too. Really fast paced.”

They played quite a few freshmen on offense. Does that interest you?

“It lets me know I can play here for sure.”

What was the message from the coaching staff?

“Just to be ready to come to Florida and make a statement. I talk with Coach [Kerry] Dixon, Coach [Chris] Rumph, and Coach [Doug] Nussmeier. They can’t wait to get me to come down.”

Do you hear from any other programs still?

“There really haven’t been any other schools talking to me but I was planning on still taking some visits. I want to visit Ole Miss, Michigan, Tennessee, North Carolina, and Florida. Probably after All-American stuff.”

How was the visit?

“It was really nice I liked it. It feels good to be back home. The atmosphere was loud and there was a lot of people to play in-front of and they will cheer you on.”

C’yontai Lewis was able to catch a touchdown. What did you think of the tight end performance overall?

“They are telling me they can use me like him [Lewis]. They said they want me to come in early.”

What are your thoughts on Florida’s offense overall?

“We will be better. I like the way they use the tight end. That is why I came here.”

Who do you stay in contact with mostly at Florida?

“I really talk to the whole staff. They tell me to hurry up and graduate and get here.”

Any other schools still recruiting you?

“Bama and Georgia. I might take visits, but I am not sure. I am still solid to Florida.”

What is the coaches message to you?

“They are really excited to get me here. I know Coach Rumph, he likes to play a lot of guys on the defensive line - so pretty much if I come in and handle business I should be in the rotation my freshman year.”

How do they see you fitting into their scheme?

“Coach Rumph said they see me as a six technique, but if I possibly grow when I get to Florida I don’t mind playing the three. I played a little nose guard for my school this season.”

What are your thoughts on Florida’s 2017 class and how it’s come together?

“I like how it’s coming together and I like how I have two guys from my city coming with me in Malik [Davis] and DaQuon [Green]. Even outside of those guys I think we have some really solid guys.”

Florida had a pretty steady rotation along the defensive line in the game. What did you think of that?

“It’s good to see a lot of guys making plays and it gives me something to look forward to when I get here.”

Do you know when you want to official visit to Florida?

“Probably after the season. I probably won’t take any other visits.”
