During the beginning weeks of the offseason, Inside the Gators will take an in-depth look at how last season went for Florida's 2016 signees who redshirted with our Redshirt Report series. Today, we focus on how last season went for safety Quincy Lenton.

Three-star safety signee Quincy Lenton had hopes as a summer enrollee of making enough of a statement during fall training camp to warrant immediate playing time as a true freshman. However, like a few of his teammates, he suffered a significant injury during the first week of fall camp.

Lenton needed surgery for a stress fracture in his right foot that had developed over time, and after he underwent the procedure a week into camp he was sidelined for roughly two months. While Lenton was on crutches wearing a walking boot, his fellow members of the secondary were competing for roles in the rotation for the 2016 season.

“It’s unfortunate, it really bummed him out when he fractured that bone that knocked him out,” said Lenton’s former head coach at Meridian High School, Larry Weems, who now coaches at Jackson (Miss.) Academy.

“You know all kids, they want to prepare to play. They don’t want to sit out. He thought he may have a chance to contribute and be on the field, whether it be secondary or special teams. But that’s stuff that happens. He was a little bit down about that at first, but I think he really likes it here and enjoys Coach Mac.”
