Robinson declares for NBA Draft, will sign with agent

After reports arose a few weeks ago that junior forward Devin Robinson would test the NBA Draft waters but wouldn’t sign with an agent right away, he’s made it official.

He announced Friday that he’ll be forgoing his senior season at Florida and entering the NBA Draft. According to an ESPN report, Robinson is expected to sign with an agent.

"We'll miss Devin here, but he'll always be a part of the Gator family," head coach Mike White said in a school release. "We're excited for Devin as he continues to pursue his dream and grateful for his role in helping reestablish the culture and success of the Florida basketball program."

Robinson, a former five-star recruit, has long had his eye on the NBA Draft. He declared early after last season but did not sign with an agent. However, doctors found a stress fracture in his foot that requires surgery, and Robinson then opted to return to school for his junior season.

In his last season as a Gator in 2016-17, Robinson finished with 11.1 points, 6.1 rebounds, 0.8 blocks and 0.9 steals per game in 36 appearances (35 starts).

Losing Robinson, arguably one of Florida’s best players, is a blow to the team, but the Gators do have options on the roster available who could contribute in 2017-18.

Although guard Kasey Hill, guard/forward Canyon Barry and forward Justin Leon have graduated, guard Eric Hester has transferred, and center John Egbunu hasn’t made his mind up yet about the draft, Florida is set to return guards KeVaughn Allen and Chris Chiozza, center Kevarrius Hayes, forward Keith Stone, center Gorjok Gak, guard Jalen Hudson, and forward Dontay Bassett – barring any unforeseen changes.

The Gators have signed four players in their 2017 recruiting class, including forwards DeAundrae Ballard and Chase Johnson, center Isaiah Stokes, and guard Michael Okauru. Florida could still use more depth on the wing, which is why it is hosting Rice transfer Egor Koulechov this weekend.

Depending on Egbunu's decision, Florida could have one or two more scholarships available before meeting the limit of 13, now with Robinson's departure being official.
