Florida redshirt sophomore wide receiver Ryan Sousa plans to take his career elsewhere.

According to a tweet he posted Monday, the first day of Summer A classes at UF, Sousa is leaving the Gators football team and will transfer to a new destination.

A former three-star recruit in the 2014 class, the 6-foot, 190-pound Sousa committed to UF and then signed when wide receivers coach Joker Phillips was still a part of the program. After redshirting in 2014, the Orlando, Fla., native appeared in just two games in 2015 and didn't log a stat.

During spring football, Sousa's spot in the order remained somewhat stagnant while four-star early enrollees Dre Massey, Joshua Hammond and Freddie Swain seemingly jumped ahead of him receiving snaps with the first and second units. UF also adds 2016 four-star signees Tyrie Cleveland and Rick Wells this summer, so it would have been difficult for Sousa to see much playing time on the field for UF in 2016.

Now, his departure from the roster opens up a scholarship for the Gators.

Sousa is the fifth Gator on scholarship to leave the team this off-season, joining linebacker Jeremi Powell, kicker Austin Hardin, offensive guard Travaris Dorsey and wide receiver Raphael Andrades. Powell is now with Toledo, while Dorsey transferred to Tuskegee University, a Division II school.

After he announced the news via his Twitter on Monday, Sousa's Gators teammates shared their reactions.
