State's top tight end keeping busy, still talking to Florida

To this point this spring Bradenton (Fla.) IMG Academy tight end Tre McKitty has been busy with camps and unofficial visits. In the month of March alone McKitty has participated in both the Orlando Rivals Camp, the Atlanta Nike Regional Camp while also finding time to visit Georgia and Auburn as well.

Florida was also able to get McKitty on campus earlier this spring as well.

“Florida is always a good time,” said McKitty. “It’s right down the street so it’s good to get back up there and hang out with the coaching staff.”

The Gators staff has offered a precious few tight ends in this recruiting cycle - with McKitty being one of them. When talking to the Florida staff they make sure to tell the three-star that he is at the top of their wish list.

“They are kind of low on tight ends right now, so they tell me that I am up there on their board. I talk with all the coaches and that is something I really like about Florida. It’s not just one coach talking to me, but I would say Coach Chris Rumph is the one I talk to the most.”

When speaking to the 6-foot-4, 225-pounder the Florida staff has let him know how he would fit into the pro-style offense run under head coach Jim McElwain.

“They say they are going to use me pretty much like Jake [Mcgee],” explained McKitty. “I got to talk to him before the season about how they used him and like what they did with him. He really liked it at Florida and said the new coaches are great and better than the old staff.”

After backing off an early commitment to Miami, McKitty is taking things slow this time around. He claims no leaders at this time and doesn’t plan to make a second commitment until late this coming fall.

“My dad won’t let me commit right now until I take some official visits. I plan on graduating early too so it will be quicker than signing day.”
