The Inside Scoop on Florida targets at the Rivals Five-Star Challenge

Though Florida only had one commit participating in The Rivals Five-Star and Underclassmen Challenge over the weekend, there were plenty of other Gators targets in attendance.

Inside the Gators offers the Inside Scoop on these prospects.

* Rivals250 quarterback Jake Allen was the Gators lone commitment on hand this past weekend in Atlanta. Allen was up-and-down during the morning session, having a few balls sail on him. However, there were a few instances where catchable balls were dropped by wide outs. Allen rebounded in the afternoon 7-on-7 session with a much stronger showing - including a long completion while down by a touchdown. His team however fell short in the Championship Game.

Allen had but one interception in the later session. It came when 2018 cornerback Al Blades jumped a route when the X receiver didn't comeback on a route, but didn't.

The biggest takeaway from Allen’s weekend is how much of a leader he is. After every play he was working with wide outs on how to get better and also was there to cheer on the other quarterback on his 7-on-7 team. Allen also did some serious recruiting over the weekend staying in the ear of wide receivers Donovan Peoples-Jones and Jerry Jeudy as well as safety Devon Hunter.

* Wide receiver Trevon Grimes had a lot of success in the 1-on-1 portion of the camp using his big body to box out defenders. Grimes was one of the more impressive pass catchers early in the day. While Grimes was impressive the one thing I did notice is that he is very stiff when he is running routes. Ohio State is the current leader here with the Gators in second place. He plans to work out at a Ohio State Satellite Camp in Florida and will visit Columbus later this summer. There was buzz in Atlanta that he ends his recruitment on that visit.

* California tight end Jimmy Jaggers certainly fits the build of tight end the Gators are hoping to add one more at the position to go along with Kemore Gamble. Whereas Gamble is more of a pass catcher, for their second tight end Florida is looking for a player who can both catch and block, which Jaggers seems to fit that mold. He was on campus Sunday and Monday and will be at Alabama on Tuesday. The Gators have many of their staff members working to pull Jaggers from the West Coast. Southern Cal is going to be a major player as well.

* 2018 wide receiver Brian Hightower has solid size with a 6-foot-3 frame, but really didn’t make a lot of noise this weekend in Atlanta. He made some plays, but was quiet for the most part. He said Clemson and Florida stick out early on.

* Five-star Donovan Peoples-Jones had his day cut short due to a hamstring injury. He is smooth for how big he is and has blazing speed, really the complete package for what you want in an elite pass catcher. He arrived to Atlanta sporting a Florida Gators' backpack and spent a lot of time with Jake Allen as well. This five-star is the top overall target on the Gators wide receiver board.

* Five-star wide receiver James Robinson was quiet for most of the event. He made a few grabs but dropped a touchdown in 7-on-7. Robinson has solid speed and top end size for a wide receiver, but needs to work a great deal on his route running. He mentioned wanting to take a visit to Florida sometime this summer, but had no dates for a trip to any schools.
