Third time's a charm? Rivals250 DB Kamar Wilcoxson commits to UF once again

For the third time in his recruitment, Kamar Wilcoxson has committed to the Florida Gators.

Wilcoxson, who had been a member of Tennessee’s 2021 class since April 27, decided today to team back up with UF, which he refers to as his “dream school.” The Rivals250 defensive back is labeled as the 14th-ranked safety in the country, but is expected to suit up at corner when he makes the transition to Gainesville.

Assuming Wilcoxson follows through with this commitment and signs with Dan Mullen's program, it will mark the first time a football prospect from IMG Academy has signed with Florida. On New Year's Day earlier this year, Wilcoxson transferred to IMG after previously strapping up the pads for Stephenson High School in Georgia.

It has certainly been a whirlwind of a process for Wilcoxson to wind up back with the Gators.

On Nov. 3, 2018, following Florida’s home loss against Missouri, the Peach State native announced his commitment to the school. That was later followed by a decommitment in late April before joining forces with the Gators again after their Friday Night Lights event last summer.

Although Wilcoxson reopened his recruitment earlier this year and verbally pledged to the Volunteers, Mullen and company will be hoping that this will be a situation where the third time's a charm.

It remains to be seen, however, if Wilcoxson will end up taking official visits elsewhere once he's allowed to start visiting college campuses again as he never fully shut down his options during his previous commitments.

Wilcoxson wants to play in the SEC at the next level, so schools like Alabama, Auburn, Georgia, LSU and Tennessee will be ones to keep an eye on if they pursue him.

If Wilcoxson sticks this one out, Florida will be getting a talented DB who put up impressive numbers in his junior season. Despite missing a handful of games last fall, the 6-foot-2, 185-pounder recorded over 70 tackles, had six pass breakups and intercepted a couple of passes.

On top of what Wilcoxson is going to bring to the field at the next level, the Gators can also expect someone who will recruit for them in this cycle.

Multiple rising seniors and underclassmen are on UF's radar at IMG, most notably Ohio State pledge Tunmise Adeleye. Wilcoxson was in Adeleye's ear about joining him when he was previously committed to the Gators, so he could be instrumental in the staff's attempt to flip the five-star pass rusher.

With Wilcoxson now in the fold, Florida has 19 total commits, including a couple of signees from the 2019 class. Those players are JUCO prospects Deyavie Hammond and Diwun Black, who was recently labeled as a four-star in this cycle.
