Defensive back double-dip: Gators see Rivals100 members Wade and Fagan

During their first day out on the road for the high school spring evaluation period on Monday the Florida coaching staff dropped in to check on two highly regarded prospects who are currently committed to other programs.

To be the best, you have to recruit the best. The Gators certainly saw one of the best defensive backs in the country on Monday when they visited Jacksonville (Fla.) Trinity Christian to check up on five-star Shaun Wade.

As a hint of his importance and ranking on the board, the Gators sent two coaches to the westside high school: defensive backs coach Torrian Gray and running backs coach Tim Skipper.

Though face-to-face contact is limited in the spring, Wade was impressed that Florida would make it a point to come and see him during the first day of spring ball.

"It's a blessing. They still need a corner and they want me to be a corner at the University of Florida," said Wade.

The Ohio State commit also said that coaches from Florida State and Georgia have stopped by to come see him. Wade grew up in Alabama before moving to Jacksonville so unlike many Northeast Florida prospects, he didn't grow up watching the Gators and doesn't know as much about them as others.

That is changing though through frequent visits, "I'm definitely going to come up there again," Wade said.

Wade comes from the same school that produced current Gator defensive back Nick Washington, though Wade said the two are more so acquaintances than friends.

The Florida Gators Coaching Staff hit the road on Monday covering a wide variety of high-profile commits across all of Florida, one being Daytona Beach (Fla.) Mainland four-star safety Cyrus Fagan.

“The coaches came by and watched me practice. I was being smooth and feeling good out there,” stated he safety.

Though the coaching staff isn’t allowed to directly communicate with recruits at this time due to NCAA rules, in the past, Fagan says the staff had been consistent with their message to him before the dead period.

“They were recruiting me a lot. They kept telling me to keep Florida in my mind. I have a great relationship with Coach Gray. We’re close,” expressed the 6-foot-2, 182-pound safety.

Florida may have stopped in to check on him, but the Gators have some work to put in if they actually hope to land the Rivals100 member.

Fagan is currently committed to the Florida State Seminoles and says that his commitment to the Garnet and Gold is solid, and he has no other visits planned at this time.
