UF's 2021 class is No. 3 in the rankings after Jordan Young's commitment

Florida capped off a stellar week recruiting-wise with yet another commitment from an in-state defensive back.

The good news started on Thursday for the Gators when they added Winter Park (Fla.) DB Dakota Mitchell to the fold. Dan Mullen and his staff followed that up the next day by getting Tennessee pledge Kamar Wilcoxson to commit to the school for a third time.

On Sunday, in-state cornerback Jordan Young opted not to wait any longer as he pulled the trigger and committed to Florida.

On top of regaining momentum on the recruiting trail with these recent announcements, the Gators also leapfrogged multiple schools in the 2021 Rivals Team Rankings.

Mitchell's decision moved Florida ahead of Michigan, while Young's commitment today allowed UF to jump Clemson and USC. The program now only trails Ohio State and Tennessee for the top two spots in our rankings.

Getting Young on board provided the team with 126 additional points, bringing their point total up to 2,061 in this cycle. Clemson (14 pledges) has 1,976 points, while the Trojans (16 pledges) have 1,994 points.

As of now Florida's class features 20 total commits, but is No. 17 when it comes to average star rating (3.37). Part of this, however, is due to JUCO commit Deyavie Hammond not having any stars on his Rivals profile just yet.

The way Rivals conducts its rankings is by taking the total value of the 20 highest-ranked pledges in a school's class. But since Hammond does not have a rating, the next player to join forces with the Gators will bring his full point value to their team ranking.

UF is third on Rivals Team Rankings, but they still have a lot of work to do to keep their spot in the top five. To achieve that, however, would take a remarkable recruiting effort, such as flipping OSU pledge Tunmise Adeleye, adding five-star prospect Maason Smith and/or landing their Palmetto targets.

It isn't likely that all of that will happen, so I believe Florida's most likely finish will be at No. 7 or No. 8 when it's all said and done.

Stay tuned to GatorsTerritory.
