UFs Boynton eager for 2010-11

As a freshman last season, Florida Gators guard Kenny Boynton lived up to his five-star billing. When all was said and done, the 6-foot-2 standout had led the Gators, who reached the NCAA Tournament, in scoring with a 14 points-per-game average. Last week, Boynton met with the media and discussed several topics. Here's a recap:

On the summer …

"So far so good. I've been working (on basketball) and going to school pretty much."

On the difference between his freshman and sophomore season …

"On the offensive side, I'm going to improve my shooting percentage this year. On the defensive side, it's going to be the same thing."

On how he improved his shooting …

"Me and (Erving Walker) have been in the gym two times a day. We've just been trying to get more repetitions. The more the better."

On whether he sees himself as a point guard, shooting guard or just as a guard in general …

"Right now, I think I'm a combo guard. I'm still working on making better decisions at the point guard position. I think I've definitely improved since last year. … I definitely feel comfortable having the ball in my hands. … Me, coach and Erv, we had a meeting (with UF coach Billy Donovan in the offseason). We're definitely going to split it up more than we did last year."

On freshman point guard Scottie Wilbekin …

"He surprised me. This is the first time I've seen him play since he got here. He's a scoring guard. (His defense is) good. He and Casey Prather -- they both play good defense."

On Prather, also a freshman …

"He's a two -- a real athletic two. He's been having concussions lately, but he played yesterday and looked real good."

On his 27-point effort in the NCAA Tournament loss to BYU, and whether that gave him added confidence …

"I definitely have confidence. It came on a little late at the end of the year. It's a new year; now I've got to put that behind me. It's a mental thing. I've got to put last season behind me and start over as if it's a new beginning and try to make this season better than last season."

On the team's lofty expectations …

"We feel the same as (last year). We really haven't accomplished nothing this year. Basically, it's people talking, so we have to put it behind us and play. … We have a tough schedule. It's going to take mentally being tough. If we take it one game at a time, we should be good."

On five-star freshman center Patric Young ...

"Patric's aggressive. He got me one time (with an elbow). He's real strong. Patric rebounds every play. We're definitely look forward to him playing."

On efforts to improve his shooting …

"I'm definitely not a big tape guy, but I went to (Lost Angeles) and I've been working with a shooting coach. I watched film on that. I'm trying to keep everything in front of me and keep my form up after every shot and stay on balance. That's what I've been working on."
