Young Sets First Visit

Willie Young of Palm Beach Gardens (Fla.) said back in the middle of November that he would have an idea of what schools he would be visiting by early December. Well Young has kept his word and is finalizing his plans for official visits.

During Young’s Nov. 14 interview with InsidetheGators.net he had one official visit set up with N.C. State for the weekend of Dec. 12. His plans are still a go for this weekend and Young, accompanied by his father, Willie Young Sr., plan to leave for Raleigh this Thursday.
“I am pretty excited about that one,” Young said. “They (N.C. State) have a great surrounding, great coaching staff and great players.”
Along with N.C. State, Young has added three more teams to his list of official visits.
“Georgia, Ohio State, Florida and I have one more,” Young said. “I have them already but I just have to get the dates. I don’t have the dates yet because we were working around the playoffs and my SAT’s.”
Young’s excitement about his N.C. State visit can very well be detected in his tone of voice when he talks about the Wolfpack. But Young assures that even if he has a great time on his visit to Raleigh, he doesn’t intend to verbal to the Wolfpack at the visit's conclusion.
“I will not verbally commit,” Young said. “I might just make a special commitment at the California-Florida bowl. But I know I won’t commit until at least my All-Star game is over with. They told me I was allowed to make a commit then. So I might think about doing it then.”
But that is only if Young can squeeze in his other four visits. If he cannot, Young might just wait until another day and time to make a verbal commitment.
But as far as Young’s last visit is concerned, it is a three-team race between Auburn, Tennessee and Oklahoma.
“They are changing very randomly,” Young said.
But while he decides on which team receives his final visit, Young is happy with the four teams he has chosen for official visits and sees similarities in all of those four programs.
“The surroundings, the coaches have been very influential,” Young said. “It is not like the other schools haven’t been telling the truth or nothing, it is just these are the places I want to take my visits.”
Since Palm Beach Gardens' season concluded a few weeks back with a loss at the hands of Deerfield Beach in the Class 6A playoffs, the phone at the Young household has been extremely busy.
“It is starting to slow down a little bit because I am starting to set up my visits,” Young said. “But I figure the schools that are still calling are the ones that are really interested.”
The coaches aren’t stopping with the phone lines either. Young has already had in-home visits from Auburn, South Carolina, Rutgers and N.C. State.
But Florida linebackers coach Bill Miller has had trouble getting in touch with Young. After football ended, Young had little time to rest and headed over to the hardwood to suit up for the basketball team.
“I have been on the run but he (Miller) has been calling a lot – I just haven’t connected with him,” Young said.
Even though his team is out to a slow start at 0-2, Young remains in high spirits about the basketball season but still has football on his mind.
“It is going pretty good. I still want to tackle and hit people, so that is the problem there,” Young said.
