Since announcing his intent to leave Notre Dame following the Fighting Irish’s 2016 regular-season campaign, quarterback Malik Zaire has spent the past six-plus months carefully evaluating his options for where he could land as a graduate transfer.
During that time, while teams were getting their offseason workout programs rolling and taking part in spring practices, Zaire was a man without a set college destination. The Kettering, Ohio, native considered various options but has since narrowed his focus on joining the Gators after the SEC altered its graduate transfer policy last week, paving the way for Zaire to transfer to UF and begin classes in Gainesville in late June.
However, Zaire has managed to stay up to speed like many of his collegiate counterparts, despite not finding a new college during the first six months of his offseason. Following the completion of his classes in December, the Notre Dame graduate transfer has spent the majority of his offseason working out with quarterback guru Dennis Gile at his Quarterback Academy in Scottsdale, Arizona.
A former starting quarterback at Central Missouri from 2001-02, Gile spent six years of his playing career with teams in various leagues, including the CFL and Arena Football League. In 2007, he established the Dennis Gile Quarterback Academy, where he’s worked with a handful of notable names currently in both the college and NFL ranks.
