3-2-1: Florida's linebacker depth takes hit in loss at Arkansas

Inside the Gators now reviews Florida's 31-10 loss to Arkansas on Saturday in Fayetteville with a 3-2-1 report. We provide three observations, present two questions and make one prediction as the Gators head into a home matchup with South Carolina.

Three things we learned this weekend:

1. With injuries to Alex Anzalone (broken arm) and Jarrad Davis (ankle) in the Arkansas contest, Florida will be entering the final three weeks of the regular season - and potentially onward - shorthanded at the linebacker position.

Anzalone's injury is expected to sideline him for an extended period of time, so he'll be unavailable for the Gators these next three weeks and then on Dec. 3 if the Gators were to make it to the SEC Championship Game. Meanwhile, the status of Davis, who re-aggravated his ankle injury against the Razorbacks, remains a question mark moving forward for the Gators. We all know how tough of a football player Davis is, but even he couldn't not play through the amount of pain he was experiencing Saturday after he went down twice in the contest.

Florida is entering its matchup with South Carolina without at least one of those two, so expect redshirt freshman Kylan Johnson to see more reps in Anzalone's absence. Senior Daniel McMillian, who has been Florida's top option at strongside linebacker this year when the defense has operated out of a 4-3 look, should all see his role increase. Freshman David Reese would see plenty of snaps if Davis is unable to go, while fellow freshman Vosean Joseph could also be thrown into the fire.
