3-2-1: Sunday thoughts on Florida's loss to Missouri

Following an embarrassing loss at Missouri, Inside the Gators now reviews the past week with a 3-2-1 report. We provide three observations, present two questions and make one prediction as the Gators head into a match-up with former coach Will Muschamp at South Carolina.

Three things we learned this week:

1. The problem wasn’t just Jim McElwain.

Sometimes, a coaching change provides a quick fix in the short term. LSU, for example, looked like a new team after Les Miles was fired and Ed Orgeron named the interim coach.

Early in the week, it looked like interim head coach Randy Shannon might be able to work some Orgeron magic of his own. He made various changes to the practice routine. He took thinly veiled shots at the way McElwain ran things. He stressed energy, enthusiasm and fun. He impressed the media by actually answering questions, something McElwain typically avoided.

On Saturday, however, it all proved to just be talk. Florida’s problems go beyond its former head coach. There are talent deficiencies in key areas. There are issues with coaching and lack of development on both sides of the ball. The new coaching staff will have its work cut out for them.

2. Graduate transfer Malik Zaire is not a miracle worker.
