With just five weeks remaining in the 2017 recruiting cycle Florida currently stands with 14 public commitments and room to take 10 or so more. The bad news is that the Gators are ranked 24th in the Rivals.com Team Recruiting Rankings. The good news is, other than perhaps defensive tackle, there are enough prospects remaining on the board for Florida to fill their needs while at the same time move up in the rankings.
Here is an in-depth rundown of the eight biggest remaining needs that have to be filled along with a dream candidate and a current best guess.
#4 REMAINING NEED
CORNERBACK
The Gators had a big need at cornerback entering this cycle and to this point Florida has gotten off to a damn good start in filling it. So far the Gators have added three at the position, but are still in the market for one more. The Gators will almost assuredly lose Jalen Tabor and Quincy Wilson to the NFL draft, so this year crop of cornerback signees will be on the fast track to early playing time.
Dream Signee: Rivals250 cornerback CJ Henderson – A class of Henderson combined with Elijah Blades, Marco Wilson, and Shawn Davis would certainly rank among the bet corner classes in the nation. Henderson has the size the Florida staff is looking for in a defensive back and is quick as well, which gives him the ability to stick with any receiver in the country.
Best Current Guess: Henderson – The Gators have been considered the team to beat for quite some time now, even before he backed off his commitment to Miami. Henderson has already used his official visit to Miami and says Florida and Alabama are in line for trips next month. He’s yet to name any kind of timeline for a decision, but Florida continues to be in great shape here.
