Florida Gators 2017 Offensive Class Review
Justin Johnson
Inside the Gators Recruiting Writer

The 2017 recruiting cycle is nearing the home stretch for Florida, and the Gators have a solid foundation to build upon. Currently sitting at #12 overall - #9 in average star rankings - the Florida staff has positioned themselves for a top 10 finish.

As of right now, Florida only has two scholarships open due to a small senior class, but expect another five-to-seven scholarships to open up between early NFL entrants and transfers. Add in the inevitable de-commit or two, and the Gators should see roughly six to 10 new faces to close out this class.

Let’s take a look at a position by position breakdown including needs that have to be filled in order to upgrade this class from a good to a great one.

QUARTERBACK

Need: 1 or 2

Commits: Jake Allen (#9 PS), Kadarius Toney (#60 ATH)

Targets: NONE

Breakdown: Jake Allen is a cerebral quarterback that fits well in the Florida offense. He has a plus arm, showing good zip on short routes, and nice touch on downfield throws. He probably belongs more in 5.7 3-star range, but he has a lot of upside. Kadarius Toney brings a different dynamic. While the Gators could give him a shot at quarterback, he doesn’t fit the mold of what McElwain and company want as their signal caller. He is an elite athlete, but his mechanics and arm strength aren’t ideal. If Toney sticks around, look for him to either play running back or safety at the next level.
