Former Player Feedback: 10 Observations
Former Florida defensive end Johnie Church (1992-1995) shares 10 observations from the Gators' 30-3 win over Iowa.
1) Great way to kickoff 2017 with a decisive double digit win against a quality opponent.
2) We had a slow start with two really unlucky bounces of the football, but our defense kept the carnage at a minimum and we regrouped to take the win.
3) Kudos to the entire team and coaching staff for fighting through a hellacious rash of injuries throughout the season and finishing strong. We literally had our former film guy starting at middle linebacker and calling defenses for us. Great job Mr Garcia!
4) Quarterback Austin Appleby - I've seen this kid take a barrage of insults from fans and smile it off because he had a chance to compete with the team he dreamed of playing for. See, most of these kids "have to" be recruited to the Gators & learn to love the school through time. This kid wasn't even recruited by us and had to choose from who wanted him, but he's always been a Gator and my heart bleeds for young guys like this to finish on a high. He still loves being a Florida Gator, even when the Gators didn't love him or his efforts. Truth is, if he didn't decide to transfer here, we most likely would have lost a few more game because of our quarterback situation - which BTW should clear up next season.
5) If not for the shuffling of the schedule due to Hurricane Matthew, we would be sitting on another 10-win season & at minimum a Top-15 ranking.
