Impact Analysis: What Trask’s knee surgery means moving forward

Redshirt freshman quarterback Kyle Trask underwent surgery Wednesday to repair a torn meniscus in his knee he suffered about two weeks ago during spring practices.

Trask played through the injury during the spring game with the second-team offense, finishing 6-of-15 passing for 66 yards and an interception playing primarily against the first-team defense.

Now, Inside the Gators takes a closer look at what this means with an Impact Analysis.

Trask’s latest injury adds another layer to a quarterback competition that’s seen some recent separation but is still facing a number of questions moving forward.

Before Trask suffered the injury two weeks ago, and it “kept getting worse” as a source describes it, redshirt freshman Feleipe Franks was gradually gaining separation in the quarterback battle and receiving most of the reps with the 1’s.

After Jim McElwain told reporters that the quarterback battle was sorting itself out and that he saw separation in the battle, he admitted after the spring game that Franks was ahead in the race.
