For the first time in his Florida tenure, head coach Jim McElwain starts the year 0-1. His message Monday was one of moving forward and correcting problems on both sides of the field.

“Obviously, all phases need to continue to get better, and yet there were some really good performances by some guys,” McElwain said. “As a whole the team fought all the way through. Disappointed with the outcome, and yet, you learn from the outcome and keep moving forward.”

McElwain was asked multiple times about the play-calling and whether he, a former offensive coordinator, might get more involved.

“No, we’re not doing that right now,” McElwain said. “You know, we need to make sure that the guys that need to touch it, touch it. Those things need getting called.”

Fans are vocal on social media about frustration with offensive coordinator Doug Nussmeier, but McElwain said their anger should be directed elsewhere.

“Put the ire towards me, I mean, I’m the one responsible for it,” McElwain said. “I plan on getting it fixed.”
