Notebook: Mixed news on injury front

There was one positive update on Florida’s injury front after practice Wednesday.

Sophomore safety Chauncey Gardner Jr., who was unable to practice earlier in the week, appears to be all clear for Saturday.

“Chauncey went today, should be good to go,” head coach Jim McElwain said. “I didn’t know how much he was going to practice today until he got out there.”

McElwain shot down a question about possibly holding Gardner out of action against Northern Colorado, an FCS school, to allow him to get healthy for future SEC opponents such as Tennessee in week three.

"There's no holding anybody out,” the coach said. “Guys that are competitors want to play. I mean, hold them out? You have a chance to play at The Swamp. I don't understand this mentality of 'I'm going to save myself.' For what? When you go through life, you only get certain opportunities. Take advantage of it and go do it."
