Former Florida quarterback Austin Appleby has worked out with members of Florida's 2017 football team this offseason, including recently, and one of the new additions he's been able to watch is Notre Dame graduate transfer quarterback Malik Zaire.
In the fourth segment of his five-part Parting Thoughts interview with Inside the Gators, Appleby goes in-depth on Zaire and redshirt junior signal-caller Luke Del Rio, the two veterans of the Gators' quarterback room.
ITG: Obviously, you and new Florida quarterback Malik Zaire have a similar background, both participating in the Elite 11. How familiar are you with his game?
Appleby: I’ve known him for about 2-3 years. I met him through the Elite 11 actually, he was a year behind me. Guys in that fraternity look out for each other. He's a great dude, he's one heck of a talent. He's very smart. In the couple of weeks that I've seen him, I just got here, he already knows just about every single guy by name, just absolutely awesome in the locker room, he's out there in practice and you know he's learning the system, just like I was not too long ago.
