Reasons for Banks visit was two-fold

With top cornerbacks Teez Tabor and Quincy Wilson slated as early-round selections in the 2017 Draft, Florida certainly needs to reload in the secondary in the coming recruiting cycles.

Enter Sevyn Banks, a three-star cornerback who was in town last Friday night for the Gators’ Orange and Blue game.

The reason for the junior’s visit from Orlando was two-pronged.

Banks had the opportunity to see Marcell Harris, his older brother, play in the spring game. He was also on a recruiting visit of his own and said that Florida Coach Kerry Dixon II was glad to see him there.

Although Banks missed his entire junior campaign with a torn ACL, a multitude of programs, including Florida, didn’t waste time showing him how much he is wanted.

Since then, he’s seen his time in the recruiting spotlight garnering offers from the likes of Florida, Florida State, Auburn, LSU, Ohio State, Oklahoma, Notre Dame and others.

Even with his brother – whom he listed as one of his role models – already playing for the Gators, Banks is taking time to consider his options.

“That doesn’t drive me to be there,” he said. “It’s like being at any college. It’s just different. Honestly, all of them are on my radar. I’m not really picking out any particular school. I have an Ohio State visit on April 15th, but I’m just trying to visit as much as I can.”

Banks is paying special attention to the fan-base of the school, as the environment figures to play a big role in his decision. Another factor is the direction the program is heading, as he states his wish to go to a program with a positive draft reputation. Regardless of where he goes, he’s not going to shy away from competition.

And when looking at future Florida visits, Banks didn’t rule it out.

“I’m always up there. It’s not really like a visit, it’s just home for me. It’s Florida. It’s my family.”
