Update: Thompson cited for marijuana possession, won't play versus Georgia

UPDATE (1:15 P.M. FRIDAY): According to UFPD spokesperson Maj. Brad Barber, Mark Thompson was cited on marijuana possession of less than 20 grams early Thursday morning.

After Thompson failed to stop at a stop sign on campus early Thursday morning at about 12:35 a.m., a UFPD officer pulled him over and initiated a traffic stop. The officer smelled "raw cannabis coming from inside of the vehicle."

He then asked Thompson to exit the vehicle and then searched the vehicle. The officer then located a small amount of marijuana in a bag, according to Barber. Post Miranda warning, Thompson took ownership of the marijuana and was issued a notice to appear.

Thompson ranks third on the team this season with 262 rushing yards and two touchdowns on 57 carries. Without Thompson, sophomore Jordan Scarlett and freshman Lamical Perine should receive the bulk of the workload in the backfield against the Bulldogs.
