It’s hard not to think Jim McElwain is playing a little gamesmanship with all eyes on the three-man quarterback battle.
For the second day in a row, Feleipe Franks did not take part in fastball, a split-field 11-on-11 session that ran under 90 seconds on Wednesday. Switching things up, Malik Zaire ran with a mostly first-team offense and Luke Del Rio with the second-team offense. Today’s matchups were more even, as the first-team offense faced the first-team defense and the second-team offense faced the second-team defense.
Zaire played behind the first-team offensive line, with utility backup Tyler Jordan filling in for Martez Ivey again. Filling out Zaire’s supporting cast was running back Mark Thompson, tight end C’yontai Lewis and wide receivers Brandon Powell, Josh Hammond and Tyrie Cleveland. Hammond was Zaire’s favorite target in fastball, but the sophomore had an uncharacteristically rough day with drops.
