* In your scouting report of Chip Kelly, what was your take on his NCAA issues? How would you classify them several years removed and how big a hurdle is that to overcome?

Landry: I don’t see it as a big hurdle, but it is something Florida officials have studied. His show-cause penalty is up and all SEC schools have the blessing of the Conference office to pursue him if they wish - and they have studied his NCAA situation as well.

* Kelly of course has no ties to the southeast or Florida. How much does that matter?

Landry: Not much if at all. Hire the best coach and if he has ties to the school, area or conference that’s just a bonus - like when one of my old mentors, Bill Arnsparger did when he hired Steve Spurrier from Duke. When I recommended Nick Saban to LSU, it was roundly criticized because he was a Midwest guys and never worked in the South/SEC. I told Mark Emmert at time to hire the best coach and the wins would come and they would adopt him. They did - and so has Alabama.

* Do you believe Kelly's offense would work in the SEC? Does Florida currently have a quarterback capable of running it?
