A resolution to Antonio Callaway’s citation for marijuana possession could be reached soon.

According to the Gainesville Sun, the junior wide receiver has been offered a deal by the State Attorney’s Office that would see the charges dropped – an offer typical for a first-time offender. However, Callaway would have to plead guilty to misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia by the terms of the agreement. Callaway, and his attorney Huntley Johnson are reportedly considering the offer.

The Sun’s Robbie Andreu suggested that the plea deal could result in Callaway paying a fine or performing community service work.

Per court records, Callaway is currently facing two misdemeanor charges: possession of fewer than 20 grams of marijuana and drug equipment. His pre-trial conference and arraignment are currently schedule for June 19, after the June 6 date was postponed.

It remains to be seen whether Callaway will miss any playing time regarding his May 17 citation. Jim McElwain could levy disciplinary action on Callaway, considering Mark Thompson and Jordan Scarlett each served one-game suspensions in the past following their citations for marijuana possession. Florida’s 2017 season-opener is against Michigan on Sept. 2 in Arlington, Texas.

While Callaway is technically a first-time offender, it’s his second marijuana-related incident while at UF. During a Title IX hearing last year involving sexual assault allegations, he admitted he “was so stoned, I had no interest in having sex with anyone.”

“It actually triggers a lot more of the education, a lot more of the testing,” McElwain said regarding Callaway’s May citation last week during the SEC’s spring meetings in Destin, Florida.

Florida athletic director Scott Stricklin added that he would be involved as well in the program’s disciplinary process of the standout receiver moving forward, as he continues a dialogue with McElwain about the matter.

“One thing you have to respect about Coach Mac is he has never shied away from discipline as a teachable moment,” Stricklin told the media in Destin, including the Orlando Sentinel. “Candidly, to this point we’ve had an issue come up and he’s said, hey this is what I’m going to do and he’s handled it well. He has not shied away from having to use discipline in the past. … He’s sat key guys in the past.”
