Five Questions: Previewing Florida's match-up with Kentucky

Inside the Gators

With No. 20 Florida (1-1, 1-0 SEC) set to travel to Kentucky (3-0, 1-0 SEC) for a nationally broadcast showdown (7:30 p.m. ET on the SEC Network), Inside the Gators presents five questions worth considering for the Gators’ first conference road game.

1. Will there be a Tennessee hangover?

On his weekly radio show, Florida coach Jim McElwain said he gave his players 24 hours to enjoy the walk-off win over Tennessee before asking them to get back to work. One would expect that friends and classmates of the players have brought up the game well past the 24-hour mark.

The most comparable Gators wins in the McElwain era are the 2015 Tennessee game and the 2016 LSU games. Two years ago, McElwain’s squad followed up a come-from-behind win over Tennessee with a near perfect performance against then-No. 3 Ole Miss and pulled off a 38-10 upset. Last year, Florida followed the goal-line stand at LSU with a disappointing end to the season, falling 31-13 to FSU. No one would ever accuse the Gators of not being up for the Seminoles, but it can be hard to play at a high level two weeks in a row.
