Now that the Early Signing Period is behind us the Florida coaching staff has roughly two and a half weeks to reset their board in order to hit the trail hard when the Dead Period ends on January, 11.
From there the Gators staff has roughly a three and a half week sprint to the finish line on National Signing Day - February, 7.
With 13 signees in the books, Florida could theoretically take up to 12 more signees.
However, they will need to see a bit more attrition before now and Signing Day if that is to happen.
The board will have more of a feel of 'finality' to it once the entire new coaching staff is in place.
THE OVERVIEW:
Signed: 1
Need: 0-1
The Skinny: Reports came out on Wednesday morning that Florida had made last minute pitches to quarterbacks Holton Ahlers (Eastern Carolina) and Jordan Travis (Louisville) in order to get them to not sign with their perspective schools (though both did). You could read that one of two ways, Florida had received bad news from Emory Jones and was looking for a back-up plan or that the Gators really wanted to take two quarterbacks in this class.
Well, on Signing Day Dan Mullen stated that though they didn't know his final decision until Wednesday, Florida felt good about their chances with Jones up to 10 days out.
That leaves the possibility that Florida wants to take two quarterbacks in this class. The problem being, the board is basically barren at this time. Unless you can get in on either of the top unsigned dual-threat quarterbacks, James Foster or Dorian Thompson-Robinson do you go after one of the second (or third, or worse) tier guys just to have another dual threat?
Listed below are two in-state prospects with some tools, but not exactly a Florida like offer sheet.
