Florida got last crack at Fields

While most of the Orange & Blue loving Gator Nation is mostly concerned about the recruiting consequences of Florida hosting Kennesaw (Ga.) Harrison five-star quarterback Justin Fields on campus for Friday Night Lights, for his part the No. 8 rated prospect in the nation looked at the trip as more of a chance to play and be around football.

“My main goal was just to come out here and compete and hang out with the players,” said Fields. “It's definitely fun out here.”

There is a recruiting aspect to be considered though. That being any visit is an opportunity to build a relationship between player and coach.

Fields offered up his feedback on Florida offensive coordinator Doug Nussmeier.

“He's pretty intense I guess you could say,” Fields said. “He's definitely precise and very informative in what he wants you to do. He explains things and makes it easier.”

When you have been in the pressure cooker recruiting environment that Fields has been going through, perhaps when it comes to coaches recruiting him, less may be more.

That may be the path Florida head coach Jim McElwain is taking when it comes to Fields.

“I wasn't really talking to him because he was overseeing everything,” explained Fields. “I didn't really get a chance to talk to him. I just said what's up to him.”

Before arriving in Gainesville, Fields was in Tallahassee seeing Florida State.

“It was pretty good. I just hung out there again. That's what I'm pretty much doing – going to places and hanging out.”

According to Fields this will be his last visit of the summer as he begins mandatory workouts with his high school football team.

While he didn't 'camp' at Florida State, he did at Florida.

When asked why he said it was because of a couple of other prospects – Iverson Clement in particular.
