Florida hosting big time targets

Today is a big day for Florida football. Not only are the Gators practicing in pads for the first time this spring, but they are also playing host to some of the top prospects on their board.

Here is a quick overview of the eight targets who are visiting.

The Skinny: Florida is one of the few programs in the southeast that has yet to offer this Rivals250 member. Could that change today?

The Skinny: Early on Florida was in much better shape here than they are today. Clemson has not only gotten into the picture, the Tigers are probably the unspoken leader right now. Today is a chance for the Gators to gain some momentum.

The Skinny: This is something that you would never phantom, but honestly you get the feeling that Florida may be in better shape here now that Martin has decided to go back to Alabama rather than stay at IMG Academy. Recently Florida has done much better recruiting the Yellowhammer State than they have the powerhouse located down the road in Bradenton.

The Skinny: What is going on with Pierce? In this instance, your guess is as good as anyone's He hasn't given a single update to a Rivals analyst or to the Alabama writers to this point. Inside the Gators will try to get in-touch with him after his visit.

The Skinny: In an interview with Inside the Gators last month Smith referred to Florida as being his outright leader. Though he has early offers from the likes of Alabama, Ohio State, Michigan, LSU and others could Florida nab him this spring?

The Skinny: He is keeping his options open as he continues to pick up offers, including a recent one from Notre Dame. Jim McElwain is recruiting him for Florida, who offered him last summer.

The Skinny: As of today he might be the top overall ranked prospect that Florida has the best chance of landing. However, any decision he makes will have to wait for awhile. He told Inside the Gators this week that he already has all five official visits planned out.

The Skinny: Florida hasn't been mentioned with him before, but he is starting to pick up offers from coast-to-coast. Recently Michigan and UCLA joined the fray. It will be interesting to see what he has to say about this visit. Is there legitimate interest, or is Gainesville just a much more pleasant place to be during the spring?
